Sudan to issue new 2-pound note by end of November 2011

According to an article in Sudan Vision dated 15 November 2011, the Central Bank of Sudan (CBOS) has announced that it will start circulation of the 1-pound coin and the new 2-pound (US$0.75) banknote by the end of November 2011. The bank is removing old style notes from circulation as they are processed, regardless of their condition.

50 pounds (US$18.70), JUNE 2011. Like P69, but new color schemes, new date, new signature, and 2-mm wide windowed security thread moved to back of note.

Sudan New Banknotes Images

The International Business Times has posted Reuters images of Sudan’s new notes which are expected to be issued in the coming weeks in response to Monday’s issuance of a new series of notes in the newly independent South Sudan. From the photos, it appears Sudan has simply changed the color schemes of the existing designs for its various denominations.

"North" Sudan currency Coming soon

The Bank of Sudan will put in circulation a new series of notes by the end of the month. The one pound note will be replaced by a coin, and the other notes will be similar to the the current ones, with colors changed and some small changes in design. The current notes will be redeemable for two months.

"North" Sudan to issue new Banknotes

Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir said on Tuesday that the North will launch austerity measures, and will introduce a new currency in the next days. Most likely this will be done to control or make it difficult for the South to get value for the Sudanese pounds they hold.
